Ice one! Hospice patients enjoy a real cool treat

IT’S so ice for patients at a Colchester hospice.
They can tuck into ice cream made by their own machine.
The treats are ideal for patients who struggle to eat solid foods.
The machine was donated to St Helena Hospice by Capel Court, Colchester-based independent financial advisers, and the Rotary Club of
Colchester Centurion.
Liz Mills, who works at the hospice in Barncroft Close, Colchester, said: “The ice cream machine has primarily been brought in to help the patients and it has been a lifeline for many.
“It is a wonderful addition to our in-patient unit and has made many patients and their families very happy.”
The machine came from an idea from hospice cooks, Jo Green and Michelle Hill, after they attended a nutrition conference.
Capel Court and the Rotary Club each donated £1,500.
Rotary president Austin Hicks said: “Ice cream will bring a smile to most faces and just one smile is reward enough.”

FAIRHAVEN — A new store opening in Fairhaven will bear a very special name, Emma Jean's, for a special little baby.
The Melanson family decided to name the store after the stillborn baby to show that she won't be forgotten.
Emma Jean will also have an angel food cake named after her, with a whipped cream topping and a purple forget-me-not.
The little girl's death came into the news last June when her mother Samantha's cell phone was stolen at Riverside Cemetery. The theft took place as the family was laying flowers on the infant's grave.
The cell phone contained the only photos Samantha had of her daughter.
Emma Jean Caldas Melanson's grandmother, Cathy Melanson, explained how the idea for the cupcake and ice cream shoppe came into being while overseeing the interior construction work.
