Making a business of being 'green'
02.10.11
NIGEL Porter is making it his business to help Jamaicans in the workplace and at school to do more for the environment — all from their restrooms.
"There is increasing pressure on organisations and individuals in developed countries to reduce their carbon footprint. As a result, people have become more proactive about this. They are a lot more energy conscious and by making simple changes to equipment, they have been able to significantly reduce their utility bills and operational costs," Porter, the owner/operator of EcoWorks, told Environment Watch.
"We saw where this was lacking in Jamaica and hence, we decided to start a business, which aims to both raise awareness of our impact on the environment and provide cost-effective solutions. Restroom facilities play an essential role in our day-to-day lives. They have a huge impact on our health, the environment and budgets. EcoWorks' products and services are offered with a view to finding solutions related to these concerns," added the 46-year-old entrepreneur.
