TUALATIN -- The four flavors of Wild Squirrel Nut Butter has gone from a hobby
to retail merchandise at the hands of two young Tualatin natives.
The
brainchild of the start-up company’s Keeley Tillotson, 19, and Ericka
Welsh, 20, is actually a simple concept: blend the standby peanut butter
with other lovable ingredients, like cinnamon, chocolate and coconut.
Their
product launched 11 months ago in January and has just gone through
it’s first mass production. Beefed up in size and hiked up in price, the
flavored peanut butter is now in 24 grocery stores, including the
chains of Portland’s New Seasons Market and Eugene’s Market of Choice .
This
is at a time when the over-saturated peanut butter market is seeing hardships from rocketing commodities prices . And although the flavored
peanut butter niche has not quite registered it’s stardom, the women
behind Wild Squirrel say starting their company in fusion foods-friendly

The Smiths retail therapy: is this the worst advertising song ever?
01.01.70
Nothing is sacred. It’s official. John Lewis will be using a version of The Smiths classic of loss and yearning Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want… for a televised Christmas advertising campaign .
It makes me physically nauseous to even write that. Songwriters Morrissey and Johnny Marr should be ashamed of themselves for granting permission to the retailers. I understand that they have to make a living… but what price trampling all over the loyalty of their fans? Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want is a delicate but incredibly powerful song, a mournful b-side that became a precious part of the Smiths canon. When Morrissey sings it with such a hollow ache, it’s a plea to deaf God for some small victory amidst all the endless defeats, petty hurts and daily failures of life. This is surely not the kind of spiritual hole that could be satisfied with a shiny new kitchen appliance?
“I haven’t had a dream for a long time / See the life I’ve had could make a good man bad / So please, please, please let me, let me, let me … let me get a Cuisinart Food Processor in stainless steel for Christmas.”
