How to replace old Jenn-Air downdraft cooktop?

We are looking into buying a forebears that is 22 yrs. old. It has an older Jenn-Air electric downdraft cooktop. I differentiate NOTHING about downdraft cooktops. Can it be replaced w/any brand cooktop? How urgently to replace? Do they work well? What about the duct employment?? It's all very confusing to me, any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!!

I’m working on a pantry remodel. i would like to invest a 5 burner cooktop on my scullery isle with an oven below. I also be to use a downdraft system. is it workable to have a downdraft with an oven- will the downdraft system fit behind an oven? how much hiatus do i for to cut out for the downdraft?
