Salvation Army ready to help
31.12.69
WAUPUN - With the old fiscal year over, and the new one just
starting, the Salvation Army again has funds to help those in
need.
That was good news for the Dodge County Salvation Army
volunteers and voucher writers who met Oct. 25 in Waupun to discus
and plan the upcoming year.
One of the major concerns mentioned at the meeting was that many
people are waiting too long to ask for help.
Jill Lemkuil, service extension field representative agreed.
"People are in denial with some bills and wait until they are
about to be evicted, or the electric is about to be turned off,"
she said. "They need to come for help the minute they can not pay a
bill."
Lemkuil said the Kettles start the first weekend after
Thanksgiving. "Last year in Dodge County we raised $60,000, but the
need is so great that we ran out of money after 11 months," she
said.
Lemkuil said the poor economy has a double effect on the
Salvation Army.
"It has brought a whole new group of people to us looking for
help and people have less to give so our income is affected also.
We need some people with income to step up and help us to help
others."
