F&P Healthcare workers consider offer
20.09.11
An impasse between union members and Fisher & Paykel Healthcare over a pay offer could be resolved this afternoon, avoiding threatened industrial action due to begin tonight.
The listed healthcare devices manufacturer told BusinessDay industrial action ''doesn't appear to be going forward''.
''The union and the company have sat down again and got to a point where an agreement has been reached which is currently being put to employees over the various shifts,'' said Fisher & Paykel Healthcare's chief financial officer Tony Barclay.
''I hope it wasn't a crisis. This was a process of two sides talking to each other. Eventually an agreement was going to be reached - hopefully we're almost there.''
An outcome is unlikely to be known until later this afternoon once the 4pm shift is advised of the revised offer.
It is the first time F&P Healthcare workers have voted to go on strike in the company's history.
Negotiations for nearly 900 staff at the Auckland plant have been going on for three months.
