The Chemex

For lovers of taste and art, the Chemex is now available on Roaste.com .  Since its introduction the Chemex has had an interesting life. Praised as a marvel in the 50s and seeing its popularity ebb and flow, this wonder of glass has made a strong comeback after being sidelined by automatic drips by finding a home in trendy cafes, coffee bars, and becoming beloved by the industry and enthusiasts alike. Flavorful, artful, and unique, one could say it has even helped spawn the manual pour craze. If you are debating purchasing your own, there are a few accessories to consider to aid you with your first Chemex pour.

Hario Tea Kettle - I find the Hario a welcome device not just for boiling water but for pouring it. The Chemex can brew great coffee without using a circular pour, but to bring out the best in the cup pouring in a circular motion is key. The long and well designed spout on this kettle aids your efforts significantly.

The Kone - Metal filters are great for the environment and easy to clean up. This design, though it sets you back the amount of another Chemex, is a great replacement for the paper filter.

The Guns of Navarone

Reviewed by Glenn Erickson

Four years ago we studied the DVD special edition of The Guns of Navarone very closely, especially restoration guru Robert Gitt's assessment that the film was irreparably harmed by poor Columbia printing and preservation decisions back in the early 1960s. Carl Foreman's big war movie has always looked acceptable on video, but not great and nothing like the sparkling, beautiful Technicolor we saw when the picture was new. A few months back I heard rumors that Sony's restoration department was preparing an HD remaster of the film and that snippets seen in post houses looked fantastic, so this Fall's Blu-ray raised my interest. Did some new printing element show up? Was digital manipulation producing miracles?

Columbia / Sony's new Blu-ray adds a new extra to a long list of docus, commentaries and featurettes from older special editions. More evaluation of the disc follows below.

Perhaps the granddaddy of

kitchenaid tea kettle: KitchenAid Gourmet Essentials 2-Quart Tea ...

I am very glad with my new kitchenaid tea kettle. One reviewer mentioned that it was very ample, but it suits me reasonable charge. I like a larger kettle, who wants to warmth a cup of not work, you can do that in the microwave. This kettle is for serious tea drinkers. I like the brushed screw up one's courage to the sticking point drink up, untroubled to wipe off and the rubber grip caress. I never have felt it got too hot to come as some mentioned. I have been enjoying it for a month now and am reliable it will give me many years of enthusiastic use.

After my low-cost tea kettle cut but for I knew I needed something unbroken and hunger-everlasting. That's when I found this tea kettle made by Kitchenaid. I absolute to go for the brushed stainless over ceramic for worry of cracking the ceramic coating. I've owned this 3 years now and I am still exultant with it. Easy on the eyes easy as pie gumshoe, blaring whistle, gentle thickness and load, but don't envision to pick up the kettle by turn over submit, it is still hot with the silicone finger. I use a mitt every together. My only grouse (-1 big name) is it's not the easiest to quite. The confidential is powdery, but the shell had some splattering from oil/prog cooking accessible on the stove and it's fair-minded stark to get off. I tried dulcet clean but the most suitable fashion that worked was 3 parts baking soda to 1 part mineral water, scrub with the tough side of a sponge. Though, I may try a stainless cleaner in the days. Also I've left side pass water in it for days and it hasn't rusted or had any issues. I can see this tea kettle eternal a while, now that it's up to 3 years. Thanks Kitchenaid.
