The Sunday Offbeat: Running into a police cruiser
01.01.70
One man had to contend with a roadside quiz of his own making when he faced a Flint police officer on Oct. 29.
First: Why was he driving with an open intoxicant?
Second: Why was he driving on a suspended license?
And, likely the most important question from the cop: Why in the world did he just rear-end a police cruiser?
Clearly lacking real good answers for any of the above questions, the man had plenty of time to mull his test answers at the Genesee County Jail.
Asleep at the wheel
Staying with today’s theme of irresponsible drivers, a Burton woman picked the wrong spot for a nap Oct. 27.
The woman, 43, was asleep in a running car — in the intersection of Center Road and Court Street — about 2 a.m. when a police officer happened upon her.
After yelling didn’t work wake her, the officer was greeted with the stench of marijuana when he opened the door to turn off the ignition.
The officer then found one possible source for her drowsiness in the form of an unsmoked ounce of weed in a bag in the car.
