Bittel reassured consumers that fears about possible pesticide residues are completely unfounded, a fact confirmed by a recently published report by the German Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) and the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR). "There is not one
single case known in Germany in which a consumer has fallen ill after eating fruit or vegetables containing residues", Bittel said. The DFHV expressly backed a recent Federal Consumer Protection Office statement that fears about the possibility of residues should not keep consumers from eating fresh fruit and vegetables.
