Nature has shown us that information about the past can be retained for very long periods of time in fossils, ice cores and in magnetic particles in rocks that record the history of  magnetic reversals of the earth’s poles, to name a few examples. In many of these cases the information is of a global or widespread situation—with many places where this information is stored. As a consequence of the non-local nature of this natural information storage, the destruction of many storage locations still leaves some records remaining. That is a good example of one important element in long term retention of information—multiple copies are needed in separate locationsto increae the odds of that information surviving for a longer time.
But keeping human information for the long term is more difficult to do. This is because there is so much more of it. This makes it hard to keep a lot of copies of this data in multiple places. Another issue is that our insatiable demand for more storage leads to denser storage technologies on media that has a finite life and also leads to our using data and hardware formats that may last for an even shorter time than the media. Are there things that people can do to extend the longevity of precious information? The answer is that there are efforts and products that may help us do this.
BRACEVILLE, Ill. — In a first at Braidwood Generating Station, employees began loading spent nuclear fuel assemblies Friday into dry concrete casks for multi-year outdoor storage.
The casks are being loaded underwater in the station's indoor spent fuel storage site. From there, the casks will be individually moved to the outdoor storage pad, where they will remain until the federal government designates a permanent repository.
Braidwood Station's goal is to fill six of the storage casks by the end of this year. The utility does not plan to fill any casks next year because the need will not be there, station spokesman Neal Miller noted Friday.
"We are doing the dry cask storage because the spent fuel pool is reaching capacity," he said. "We need to offload to continue operating."
Thirty-two fuel rod assemblies will go into each dry cask. Each reactor has 193 fuel rod assemblies, which stay in the reactor for three 18-month cycles. About one-third of the assemblies are changed out each time the utility undergoes a refueling outage.
One of the topics I haven't addressed yet are plastics and their strike on your form. It's notable for all people, but primarily impacts those who are more touchy to outer toxins such as....people with sustenance allergies! :) It moral makes brains to tend your eats setting as best bib you can when your system is already unshielded. For some ratiocinate, the unripe/environmental drive, while making betterment, has not donn this issue much request. It's certainly melodious tractable to tumble to that household chemicals such as distribute cleaners, drunk, solvents, mothballs, air fresheners and dry cleaning chemicals let off gasses which negatively colliding your salubriousness. They forth Hair-trigger Native Compounds (VOCs) into the air, which cumulate into our bodies over heretofore. What's not so commonly known, however, is that base household plastics in O bottles, pet bottles and other grub containers leach toxins into foods (think back on osmosis in ready?) that put into our bodies over however as well. While the FDA has been dead-and-alive to remember the intention of plastics on our haleness, a panel of the NIH (US Nationalist Institutes of Healthfulness) has indicated it poses a jeopardy to humans. (I'm privately not gonna linger until the regime makes this authentic, who knows if and when that will develop? Also plastics are petroleum-based products, which opens another can of worms.) While we can't completely sidestep all plastics in our lives, it's momentous to safeguard that we try to curtail its touch with commons. Plastics set even more toxins when impassioned, so please don't microwave victuals in pliable containers because it accelerates the migration of toxins into your commons! Carry eats to tumbler or ceramic dishes before microwaving. (1) Slowly get rid of old Tupperware (belief me, this is harder than you muse on -- I've had some pieces since I was a kid!) and other reusable manageable containers. If you use disposables, use them only a few times...
