Why do ice trays always come in twos?

Hi. It's in all probability a stupid question but i was just wondering why ice trays are always sold in sets of two? I unquestionably have never seen just one ice tray. Why is this?

So you can have a equipping of ice while the just-refilled one is put back into the freezer.

All of my ice trays are plastic, is that safe? Are there any safe kinds of ice trays?

In the stores I always see counterfeit ones, is there a safer ice tray out there? Are there rubber ice trays and if there are, are they crypt? I'm worried about the chemicals in the plastic. Is there such a preoccupation as a stainless steel ice tray?

I consider it would be hard to crack a stainless insulate ice tray and as far as plastic ones, I'd be less anguished about that than rubber. And no one has died from using the shapable ones to date so I guess it can't be that bad...

TEDMED Day 4 – Nano Shapes and Confronting Death

TEDMED 2011 finished up with a short morning session for attendees to learn just a little bit more before they checked out of the Del and headed out of San Diego. On the whole, the TEDMED crew once again pulled off a spectacular conference. The quality of the talks (especially Day 3) and social events was exceptional and we’d like to give a big thanks to the TEDMED team for working so hard to put on such a meaningful event.

Jay Walker himself started off the morning by showing us some rare artifacts from his amazing library of human imagination . Most interesting was a punch card from the Jacquard loom, the first machine to use an automated and replicable input of instructions to reliably repeat an action. This innovation from the early 1800s inspired Charles Babbage years later as he built his difference engine, largely considered to be the foundation of modern computing technology. Along with the punch card from the loom itself, Jay had a small book of prayers where each page was woven out of silk using the Jacquard loom itself. This served as an incredible marketing piece for the loom and instantly changed people’s notions at the time of what a loom could do.

Niçoise salad recipe

For the French beans
2 sheets of gelatin
100g French beans

12 quail’s eggs

For the cherry vinaigrette
100g extra-virgin olive oil
25g cherry vinegar

To garnish
a handful of micro watercress leaves
16 black Kalamata olives

For the tomato juice jelly, soak the gelatin sheets in cold water for five minutes. Place the tomato juice, sugar and a pinch of salt into a saucepan and bring to the boil, add the gelatin and mix well, then pour into a silicone ice cube tray. Place in the fridge until the mixture has set (ideally for at least 12 hours).

To make the mashed potatoes, place the potatoes in a saucepan with cold water, bring to the boil and simmer until soft. Drain and mash, adding the olive oil, the nutmeg and the white pepper, ensuring it is well mixed. Take a small ice cream scoop or two dessertspoons and make ‘quenelles’ or egg shapes from the mashed potatoes and set to one side.
