Preserving fruit but not jam (le parfait jars)?

I’m not gay or anything, just want to be sure if there is a way to preserve fruit in a jars without having to arrange jam.

I’m thinking a light syrup or essence?

Any recipes will be greatly appreciated, preferably one from go through not the internet.

As you be informed, the Dutch preserve a lot :)
