OWN-ROOT ROSES-- how do I grow my own from cuttings? Mini-greenhouses? Mason Jars? HELP!!?

I have a lovely garden full of over a hundred varieties of roses, but only 4 plants are "own-house." An America, A Mary Rose, A William Shakespeare, and An Impressionist. These are growing Spacious!! I want to take clippings of my Don Juan and Joyful Celebration. These are both on root-stock. I've heard about using impressionable soda liters for mini-greenhouses and turning a quart mason jar over the chill to protect it (if planted direct in the garden) Are there any other ways that might labour better? Any tips?

I will choose a first answer. :-)

Like bill said use a rooting hormone if you cut it. I have charmed cuttings, dipped them in rooting hormone, put them in the scope and put a clear mason jar over them and probably 75% have set. However my preferred method is tip layering if you have some yearn branches near the ground. What you do is steer the tip to the ground and make a 1" domain trench (maybe 5" extensive). Put the stem in the trench and jacket blanket it with soil so you have the last 6" of stem lifetime the trench and in the sun. Put a small rock over the buried part if it wants to pop out of the loam. In about 6 weeks you should have enough root system to cut it from the parent flower and re-plant it wherever you think it will do well.

Pies, cut down to size, offer big taste in tiny treat

Move over, cupcakes, there's another bite-size treat sweetening up a bakery near you. Call them hand pies, "cutie pies" or personalized pies — they're bites of home-style dessert that fit in your palm.

Home bakers can practice downsizing their pie recipes for batches of mini-treats. "Cutie Pies" (Andrews McMeel Publishing, $16.99, 160 pages) presents 40 recipes for mini pies, ranging from "petit-5s,"baked in a mini muffin pan, to "pie jars" which are baked in small Mason jars.

Who doesn't love pie, no matter the size?

"Pie is one of those classic treats, a feel-good treat that you don't have to think about or explain too much,"said Dani Cone, author of "Cutie Pies" and founder of Seattle's High 5 Pie shop. "I love that people have their own memories attached to it, like the best pie they ever ate or their grandma's pie. It's not a fad item."

Think of pie as the latest dessert to be scaled down.

"They say cupcakes are out and pie is in,"said Trey Luzzi, owner of TreyBCakes" in Sacramento, Calif. "We usually sell out every night. A slice of pie looks sloppy and messy, but we consider these our slices and they're perfect and individual."

Party planning comes natural to mom

It’s done

Cindy Shanholtz’s advice for throwing a great holiday party:

Basic tips

Shop, decorate, cook, drinks — that is the order you attack the party with.

For those on a budget or time crunch, pick a focus and run with it. Try a cocktail and dessert party (cookies and spiked eggnog) or a party of comfort foods done appetizer-style.

Use rental companies. Shanholtz says it is surprising the kinds of items that can be rented from coat racks to a doughnut maker. And she suggests renting plates and silverware to make clean up easier.

Decorating

Everyone and everything looks better in candlelight. Buy votives, not tea lights. They last longer and look better. Always use unscented around food, but scented is fine for the rest of the house. Try votives suspended from glass windows with Velcro.

Change light bulbs from regular to amber for a warm glow.

First Class Panda: Mini Pies!

Then you just put them in the freezer when they're all done and you can take them out whenever you touch like a separate serving pie.  You nothing but take off the top and bake in the oven on a baking coat for 50-60 minutes when browned on the top.  These are mason jars so you don't have to unease about mirror in the oven, unless you are apprehensive in which in the event that, just bring to to dwelling temp first and then bake.  I'm ineluctable you'll be pleased as Punch with these hardly ever treats!
