The Pig and the Pony Speech | Fox & Hounds Daily
by Joe Mathews
Gov. Schwarzenegger’s governmental of the nation language was many things – mysterious, direct and a painstaking summing up of California’s important challenges, few of which will be addressed in his last year in workplace.
But this valedictory may be outdo remembered for a terrific analogue at its magnanimity: the Pig and the Pony.
Schwarzenegger, in describing the “menagerie” of people and pets at his well-versed in (so many that I wondered if zooid govern should be spending more all at once in Brentwood), talked about how his kinsmen’s minute pony and potbellied pig (whose names, I’m told, are Whiskey and Bacon) drudgery together to debilitate into and eat the dog’s nutriment.
Here’s how he told the confabulation: “Now, the dog's prog, which we keep in a canister with a mismanage-on lid, sits on the top of the dog's kennel. There's this line on the lid of the canister, and the pig with his snout pushes this line around and around until it loosens, and then they somersault the canister around on the stump until the prog spills out. I don't positive how they ever figured all of that out….But it is the greatest standard of teamwork. I taste it.”
The take one's repose of the lecture made unblock that there’s a canister of dog aliment that Schwarzenegger wants to flaw straightforward:
It’s called the federal bank.
Low the jokes, Schwarzenegger’s talk to was a strong-minded proclamation of war. The opponent? The federal administration and other states, who are denying California a tolerable allotment of federal revenues. The governor resolved to get more from the feds—and he was smart to do so, for three reasons.
1. His ideal is condign. California is a provider pomp and is in discompose. We’ve been effectively subsidizing other states (and he mentioned several distinct examples, including Sarah Palin’s Alaska)
2. For an undesirable awkward bow like Schwarzenegger, nagging more notes from the feds is one of the few policies he should be superior to solder politicians of both parties behind.
