Gilmour boys hockey coach wins 500th on 55th: High School Winter Sports Insider
Gilmour hockey coach John Malloy celebrated his 55th birthday in style.
The Lancers opened their season with a 3-0 victory over Findlay on Nov. 25 to give Malloy his 500th coaching victory. It puts him in select company as the fifth Ohio coach to reach that mark.
"The kids knew from last year," said Malloy, who has been at Gilmour since 2004 after stints at Cleveland Heights and Rocky River . "I was at 499 in the [state] semifinals last year. I came in the locker room and they were all cheering."
The good-natured Malloy could not pass up the opportunity to get in his best shot.
"I told them I would have rather got it against St. Edward ," said Malloy, referring to the heartbreaking, four-overtime loss to the Eagles in March.

Local woman helped deck the halls in the White House
She was one of many volunteers from all over the country.
"Just when we walked in all the volunteers we were just in awe going, 'We're in the White House. We're actually in the White House,'" said Hill.
For six days they worked. She had the task of decorating the historical library with two other volunteers.
"They looked at me because they knew I had some experience," said Hill, "And they said, 'Okay what are we doing?' And I went, 'Okay, this is how I decorate a tree. Let's go.'"
The tree was red, gold and chocolate brown.
"Believe it or not it was about a seven foot tree and it took us almost 10 hours," said Hill, "It takes that long when you're doing it for the White House cause you're like putting it on real careful."
After an experience like that Jackie said she brought a little bit of the White House to her Spring Township House.
"My mantle did not look like this last year," said Hill, "This is the new me."
And that's not the only thing she took away from her days at the White House. She received a personal thank you from Michelle Obama.
