Tri-City Motor Speedway reopening a speedy success
31.12.69
AUBURN — The loudest sound at the Tri-City Motor Speedway this season may not have been roaring engines but cheering fans.
Right from the start the fans returned to the speedway in droves making for a very successful return season.
“It was better than expected,” Tri-City Speedway owner Steve Puvalowski said. “Every week it got better until the end of the season, I can’t complain.”
The original plan for Tri-City this year was for some low key races beginning on June 17 before a proper grand opening race on July 8. The low key part unexpectedly went out the window when despite not advertising much about 1,200 people turned out for the opening race.
“It was great to see all the community come out to support it right away,” Puvalowski said.
Initially the first week’s attendance at didn’t hold up as the following week was rained out then the next two races had smaller crowds as the track continued to dial things in. The crowds returned en masse at grand opening race and continued to grow throughout the rest of the year.
