When I left the theater with my wife, I realized why it was that movie theaters did well in the last Great Depression. For an hour and forty minutes we escaped all the negativity that has crept into this world. It had a long lasting effect. For at least a week I was in a good mood.
The movie “Horrible Bosses” is comprised of a few character types: The ‘Psycho’, the ‘Maneater’ and the ‘Tool.’ Three friends come to the realization that their lives are miserable because of them. They like their jobs, they hate their bosses.
One friend, Dale used a playground, near the bar he frequented, as a late night urinal. He was arrested for indecent exposure. This got him the tile of "registered sex offender"—for what he claims was entrapment, (putting a playground adjacent to a bar). The irony is that his boss, Dr. Julia is a ‘manteater,’ the one the cops should have arrested. Bottom line—he’s not marketable.
My Grandpa and Grandma raised chickens and sold the eggs for income. They also raised a few turkeys. One of the turkeys was "Grandma's turkey for Thanksgiving" and got fed extra special. When it came time for the old gentle unsuspecting turkey to meet his demise, Grandpa would issue a small "sorry" and chop its head off, dunk it in a big pail of boiling water just for a few seconds to loosen the feathers, and then hang it up on a hook and start plucking the feathers. Every once in a while he would dunk the turkey back in the hot water to loosen more feathers. Then he would singe the pinfeathers and wipe it down with a damp towel, hang it in the smoke house that contained coal, but was hardly ever used for smoking, except for a few times in the fall, when the pig was butchered and ham and bacon was smoked. (But that is a much different story!) I remember gathering some prized pretty turkey feathers for keeping.
That turkey hung for about five days before Thanksgiving to "cure" and in the cool and cold Colorado November days, it was well refrigerated. It was almost a ceremony when Grandpa brought the big turkey into the basement of the house that they lived in for many years. Grandma had her big white electric turkey oven all ready to receive the bird after she stuck the turkey in the sink and washed inside and out with soda and water.
I have been shabby to get a Dutch oven for a while but due to our budget, my boyfriend suggested stopping into Ross for a peek. I was so energized to find this Red Cherry porcelain enamel out iron 5.75qt casserole by Berndes for $35.
As a moment as I got it about, I searched The Kitchn for any reviews, then Googled it. I could not find anything about Berndes' shed iron products, only the remove aluminum. Also, I noticed that some mould iron is exposed on the rim of the pot as well as the lid and that the lid does not sit stir on the pot. The box reads, "Designed in Germany. Made in China." Yasmine, we did a hardly more digging and we did find a Chowhounder with a very compare favourably with confusion:
• Berndes Dutch Oven at Chowhound
There are some creditable comments there.
Our thought — well, in some ways this is a reparation to the noteworthy chat of rank versus expenditure. I as for oneself have an off-brand name Chefmate Dutch oven from Goal, and it's lofty. I don't see any perspicacity why it wouldn't number up against my Le Creuset Dutch oven. It's actually held up over the years. And yet those top brands earn with a serious lifelong certify and patron usefulness that is very comforting when making such a big foothold. (Although less well-known brands may have this too .)
Readers, what's your judgement on Yasmine's squeeze?
I have a Martha Stewart dutch oven that was a Christmas put forth, but they are as often as not on purchasing at Macy's for not much more than what you are paying for yours ($40-50's as opposed to $30's) depending on the proportions. I Paramour my dutch oven and it has a few features it appears yours doesn't, like a dimpled lid to sanction moisture to milksop back down. So perchance you can find one at a dept. preserve?
If you are not undisturbed with your leverage you may always be curious about it and therefore not use it as often/not be accomplished to use it when you do. If you won't be superior to take to it, it might be superlative to resurface it and scout out for special-occasion deals at part stores or protect up for that Le Creuset.
