Ask me at any time over the last decade how Joe Paterno’s career as the head coach at Penn State University would end, and I’d have told you that it would end with his death as the head coach. I was sure that if he quit coaching it wouldn’t be because he stepped down and retired, but because he physically couldn’t not move or had passed away. I guess the second option would have been for some respected people in the PSU administration, or even his dear wife, Sue, to step in and politely ask him to retire from coaching and live out his last years watching PSU games from a suite inside Beaver Stadium. Never in my lifetime did I think that his career could end as a part of perhaps the biggest scandal in NCAA history.
For anyone under a rock this past weekend, Penn State’s universe was turned upside down when it was learned that their administration, namely Athletic Director Tim Curley and VP of Finance and Business Gary Shultz, had been involved in a cover up of alleged sexual assaults on young boys by former Nittany Lions defensive coordinator, Jerry Sandusky. For details on the despicable charges that are being filed against Sandusky, check out nearly any sports website on the planet, but I refuse to go into any of the sickening details of this horrible man’s actions. Curley and Shultz were then charged with failing to report these heinous crimes, and should see considerable jail time for their perjury and involvement in covering the trail of a man that preyed on boys. Jail time is much deserved for them, and Sandusky may just encounter another level of justice behind bars when he learns how even convicted felons feel about what he did.

College Football: The Ten Most Overrated Traditions
01.01.70
Tradition is the cornerstone of the college football world. It's what separates college football fans from the rest of those uncivilized fans in the NFL, the NBA and MLB. College programs and their fans have a reason for every crazy thing they do, and they love every minute of it.
Some traditions are just plain sweet; everyone can agree with that. Student bodies have come up with some really awesome ways to encourage their team on to victory. From flaming spears to the Sea of Red and "jump around" to the 12th Man, student traditions are hard to beat.
However, some of the traditions that people start are just plain ridiculous. Certain schools' traditions are made out to be in the spirit of the university, but if you think about them, they actually seem like they're done just for the sake of doing them. Some of these actions or objects that mean the world in the eyes of some just seem crazy from anyone else's perspective.
And you know what, that's all right.
