Amana Colonies provide holiday events
01.01.70
In the Amana Colonies, Christmas comes early.
Starting today through Dec. 18, Amana will celebrate the season with its annual festival, Prelude to Christmas. Four holiday-themed weekends are jam-packed with activities and entertainment, including the Tannenbaum Forest, Amana Heritage Museum’s annual “Glimpse of Amana Christmas Past” program and the Holiday Bazaar and Cookie Walk, among other events.
Organizer Jon Childers of the Amana Colonies RV Park & Events Center said the event, now in its 12th year, is a way for families to get the classic Amana Colonies experience.
“The Amanas are known for having a lot of events,” Childers said. “Having events is a good way to keep our name fresh in people’s mind, and gives them something to do.”
Proceeds from the Tannenbaum Forest — a twinkling collection of 40 live, decorated Christmas trees, a nativity scene and a handmade 17-foot tall German-style Christmas pyramid — benefit the Amanas’ 2011 Make-A-Wish child, Brandon, who is 5 years old and suffers from cystic fibrosis. His wish is to go to the San Diego Zoo because he loves animals, Childers said.
