And the readers spoke and declared it was so and they remembered it well.
It apparently came about through a combination of events in 1974. This was the year of the three day week imposed by the Government to conserve the nation's power. At the same time, it was reported there could be a sugar shortage because of a severe reduction in sugar cane imports. Housewives, it was said, panic bought and made the shortage happen.
John Matthews, a retired baker from New Mill, said there was such a shortage there was no icing sugar for Christmas cakes that year. Beverly Collins says that because of the three day week, deliveries to supermarkets were erratic and they rationed sugar to customers.
“I was thrilled to win a raffle, at the time, which consisted of a tea pot, box of tea bags and a precious bag of sugar. I lived in a staff house in Storthes Hall Lane and coal supplies were very irregular.
“A group of the men hired a circular saw and cut up a number of trees to fill our coal houses with logs. It was the one and only time I had log fires. I'm not sure who the trees belonged to but there were no repercussions!”
I can't remember where I got this recipe, but I do remember that I wanted to rush it into the paper before Christmas. It's been the year of bacon and more bacon.

We ordered online at this microwave because no one locally carried out the bisque color, and the bounty was happier than if we ordered from municipal suppliers. Our old man is deathly and we needfulness to trial the color of the biscuit our cabinets and appliances, all bisque color. The only kick I have is that the door is very doctrinaire at the end … has a true metal, sounds unpleasant. N. engraved resonance. And 'the only squawk on this impose on we have.
