GE Profile Spacemaker XL 1800 Microwave: turntable grinds and turns more slowly. Is this easily repairable?

Grinding noise started about a month ago. Yield c turn over speed has decreased from 3 RPMs to about 2 RPMs. Grinding cacophony does not occur if turntable is off. Everything else seems to be working correctly. Is there a part I can change myself, or must i call for service?

If the oven is fat enough, they make windup turntables that will do the job and will apt to be far less expensive than genuine replacement parts.

I have GE microwave and the turntable is in shift when the door is off and the oven is not being used. The only spell it does not spin is with the door outspread. GE's website is very difficult to search through and there is no refer to of such an issue in the handbook. There is an on/off switchh on the microwave, but I've already tried that. Any ideas?
