Homeless man could spend up to 15 years in jail for robbery
Friday September 23, 2011BRATTLEBORO -- The jury has been selected for the trial of a homeless man living in Brattleboro who allegedly robbed a local store at knife-point last year.
Jose Ramirez, 37, is accused of threatening a clerk with a sharp object at Dottie’s Discount Foods on Flat Street and if convicted, could be face up to 15 years in prison.
According to an affidavit by Brattleboro Police Detective Adam Belville, just after 2 p.m., on June 1, 2010, a man approached the cash register and began to inch toward the clerk. He then placed a "very sharp" object against the clerk’s right side, along the abdomen, and stated in a low voice, "open the drawer, open the drawer, be quiet."
The man drew the sharp object against the clerk’s side causing a one-inch superficial cut.
