SD recycling rate hits new high as city expands options

National Recycling Day
Tuesday is National Recycling Day and Sony Electronics is sponsoring a free public consumer electronics recycling event from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Building 7/visitor parking lot, 16530 Via Esprillo, San Diego.
All brands of televisions, computer monitors/displays, stereos, computers, cell phones, etc. will be accepted. The following will not be accepted: batteries, microwaves, humidifiers, thermometers, air conditioners, smoke/fire alarms/detectors and large household appliances, such as dishwashers, refrigerators and washer/dryers.
In addition, there's a neighborhood cleanup and recycling event, which follows an all day “EnviroFair” for students at Los Coches Creek Middle School in Blossom Valley. The trash cleanup and recycling effort runs from 3:30 p.m. until sunset at the school, 9669 Dunbar Lane in unincorporated El Cajon. The public is welcome; minors must have a signed permission slip.
To locate recycling centers around the county, go to, wastefreesd.org , run by the nonprofit group I Love a Clean San Diego. The group offers tips about everything from where to take Christmas trees after the holidays to how to dispose of cooking oil (think about your Thanksgiving turkey) in an environmentally friendly fashion.
