Camping in the wild

After my first experience standing proud at an altitude of 4,600 metres in the mountain pass in Gongga Shan, the adventure of riding in the southern rim of the Tibetan plateau began for me. I was constantly surrounded by the breathtaking Tibetan landscape under very clear blue sky. The air was fresh and cold and the water from the river was clean and unpolluted.

Unlike riding in the mystical Sichuan Mountains, there wasn’t much climbing here in the southern part of the plateau of Tibet. I was constantly riding at an altitude of between 3,500 and 4,500 metres. Surprisingly, I don’t have any problem riding at this altitude. I guess this was because I pedalled slowly at a 800m altitude in Chengdu and had acclimatised well stage by stage.

I began to learn so many things while riding here. This was the first time for me cycling above 4,000m altitude. It was also the first time I saw Yak (Himalayan cow) in real life and got to taste their meat and milk. This was also the first time I set up my tent and camped alone in the wild. I have never camped alone in the wild before in my whole life and I didn’t even know how to set up a tent! I only learned how to set it up when I bought the tent in an outdoor shop in Chengdu. I asked the seller to demonstrate it to me until I was satisfied.
